Industrial site at Nairne's entrance?
Mount Barker District Council was considering an industrial development on the Princes Highway - Woodside Road corner. The NACC has run a campaign over several years opposing this development in the proposed form and with the support of the vast majority of the Nairne community. In the latter part of 2007 Council decided to remove all new sites from the Planning Amendment Report (PAR). This means that site's zoning remains unchanged.

It is possible that a new PAR may be developed for that site in the future however Council has committed itself to full community consultation should this happen.

Nairne Heritage Mural project

The Nairne Heritage Mural project sets out to display, in highly visual form, the history of the town and its early residents. It is plannned to create around 25 murals distributed along the Main Street each of which will depict, in the main, an activity which occurred at the mural location in the early days. Examples are blacksmith, school, postal office amd the like.
The project will be formally launched on Founders Day 2008 by the mayor of Mt. Barker, Anne Ferguson. It is anticipated that there will be 6 murals completed by then with another 6 by the end of 2008. So far the project has been funded by the District Council of Mt. Barker but sponsorships are being sought. Currently the NACC is in the process of applying for donations to be tax deductible.
Completion of the project is expected to be around the end of 2009 by which time Nairne's rich history will be vividly displayed to residents and visitors alike. The NACC believes that this will be the only mural collection of its kind and size on mainland Australia and will attract visitors from around the country.
Sponsors will be sought shortly for future murals and they will be acknowledged at the relevant mural site. Donations can be individuals or corporate and can include a full mural sponsorship of approximately $600.
